Garden Shot of Bryan Lahr using Light Painting

The Art of being Bryan Lahr

I am a multi discipline artist. I started drawing with crayons on my bedroom wall as a small boy and never looked back. I became addicted to the thrill of shaping color and texture and that addiction never stopped growing.

I spent most of my adult life as an advertising creative director and went on to direct commercials and film. The best part of that time were the amazing professionals I got to hire and work with. I harassed each and every one of them for techniques and inspiration. Illustrators, photographers, amazing designers and film directors. I soaked up the creative juice like a sponge. It all blended together in this creative gumbo that became my personal point of view.

I always had a passion for painting... something about pushing pigment around on a blank canvas always tickled me. Later, I got into photography really deep and I tried to bring a painters eye to all my images.

For a number of years, I’ve been intrigued with light painting. There are so many talented artists making beautiful inspiring imagery. This last year I decided to get serious and give it a go myself. To say I got hooked would be a massive understatement. Light painting combines all the techniques I’ve come to love in one unique and satisfying package. I’m still pushing color around, but now it’s not pigment... it’s LIGHT!!!!! Woooo Hoooo! I just keep asking myself, “why’d you wait so long?!!!!”

As I learn and practice the enjoyment just keeps blooming in a myriad of surprising ways. I hope that never stops.
